Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Allan’s passing. As the fifth child born to Alf & Mamie (Jordan) Tall, Allan arrived in this world on May 25, 1924, and left us on April 27th, 2022.
Allan’s life was farming. From the days of plowing with horses, of binders and stooks, the day he ran down the road to greet his dad bringing one of the first threshing machines into the Valley, to a modern cab tractor in the 1960s, to going for drives throughout the Valley to watch modern farm equipment, farming was the essence of him.
Alongside farming, there was curling. From the days of first learning to curl at a rink in the Avonlea District to competing in the Monroe Cup at age 86, it was a sport he and his parents loved. Square dancing was a love later in life, as well as travel. He enjoyed several Norm Olfrey bus tours, travel with Barry and Pat to watch some very special curling events, mystery tours his daughters arranged, and spur of the moment casino trips with Kay. He was a garage/auction sale enthusiast and could not resist a bargain. He spent many happy hours in his garage sorting through his discoveries.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 76 years, Kay; his son, Barry, with whom a father/son bond was forged through years of farming and curling; his daughter, Doreen, with whom he shared the love of local and family history; and his daughter, Joan, who very much shared his quick wit.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Pat; his sons-in-law, Louis and Dennis; his grandchildren, Derek (Hannah), Anna (Brian), Renee (Louis), and Tim (Jaclyn); his three great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. In passing, he joins his parents, Alf & Mamie, and his siblings Gladys, Merle, Stan, Elsie, Marj, and Aileen.
The family wishes to express its sincerest appreciation to the staff of the Swan Valley Lodge Personal Care Home. The many kindnesses to him, over and above the staff duties, were noticed and very much appreciated.
Cremation has taken place and a grave side service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Community Foundation of Swan Valley PO Box 1509 swan River, MB R0L 1Z0 or a charity of choice.
No longer does he need to ask to be moved into the sun; he is resting in eternal sunshine.
