Obituary
Allan Joseph (Butcher) MacKinnon
May 27 1939 – March 18 2022
Black Point/Bay St. Lawrence/Coxheath.
It is with eternal love and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Pa at the age of 82, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Mary. Mom and Dad will sleep and wait for the resurrection when Jesus comes the second time to this earth and raises the dead. Born in Black Point to the late Peter and Elizabeth (MacEachern) MacKinnon, Pa was the last surviving member of his first family. He was predeceased by sisters, Flora Ann, Mary Ann, Isabel, Margaret, Annie, Maggie, Sadie Mae, Annie Beatrice, Marcella, Margaret, and Florence; brothers, Archie, Alex Dan, Alex James and Simon. He was also predeceased by eldest son Richard in infancy and his great grandson Cruz. Known as Da, Pa, Poppa, Old Poppy, Uncle and Butcher, Pa was the definition of greatness to us, not because he was perfect but for his kindness, generosity, love of his family and fishing. Pa spent most of his life on the water. His love of the sea and his boat Mercator ll truly shone from him. Mom and Dad left behind a true legacy for their entire family to be proud of. We will forever be grateful for our parents, who showed us such unconditional support, love, and kindness for others. Pa is survived by his children Joe (Rita), Anthony (Marlene), Brenda (James) and Stefanie (Jay); grandchildren Jolene (Christopher), Jeffrey (Sherry), Zacky (Grace), Allan (Kelsey), Felicia, Kaleb, Joshua, Mary, Alec, Hazel, Lauchie, Allan Jay, and Lowlend; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Kyle, Brady, Walker, Brock, Alayna, Isla, Conner and Ava.
Marcella Mary MacKinnon (Fraser)
January 13,1944 – July 3, 2021
Mom grew up in Black Point and The Hill. In 1969 she and Dad moved to Bay St. Lawrence. In 1993 they bought a home in Coxheath and split their time between Coxheath and Bay St. Lawrence.
Mom and Dad ran a successful fishing business. She also worked at MacDonald’s store and then proceeded to work at Morrisons for many years.
Mom was known as Nan and Nannie by her children and grandchildren, and Old Nannie by her great-grandchildren. Mom was always trying to feed you. Everyone had their favourites whether it was biscuits, aero bar squares, lasagna or her and Dad’s soup. Her grandchildren have fond memories of meals being made and shared with their friends. Mom enjoyed bingo where she had good times with many great friends especially Bev and Kenny. We want to thank her nephew Warren and his wife Janet for their kindness.
Mom died peacefully at home with her family. Together her and Allan had 5 children; Joe (Rita), Anthony (Marlene), Brenda (James) and Stefanie (Jay). She was predeceased by her first= born Richard, who died in infancy. Mom had 12 grandchildren; Jolene (Christopher), Jeffrey (Sherry), Zacky (Grace), Allan (Kelsey), Felicia, Kaleb, Joshua, Mary, Alec, Hazel, Lauchie and Allan Jay. Old Nannie had 9 great grandchildren, Chelsea, Kyle, Brady, Walker, Brock, Alayna, Isla and Conner. She was predeceased by one great-grandchild Cruz.
Marcella Mary MacKinnon (Fraser) was born January 13,1944 in North Sydney. Her birth parents were Marcella Mary (MacKinnon) and Angus Fraser. Mary’s mother died in childbirth and she was raised by Flora (her aunt) and Archie MacKinnon. Her father Angus later married Katie and between all the families there were 17 siblings: Johnny, Danena, Catherine, David, Laura, Thelma and Dennis. Mom was predeceased by brothers and sisters Archibald, Margaret, William, Mary, Christy Annie, Simon Dan, infant child, D.A., Charlie and Ralph.
Pa reminded us to keep on with life. Love each other always. In life there is nothing more important than Love.
On Thursday March 24 between 5-7 there will be a visitation held in memory of them both at the family home. 37 Avalon Dr, Coxheath.
There will be a graveside service held for both Allan and Mary at 1pm on Sunday, March 27 at the United Church graveyard in Bay St. Lawrence. Immediately following the service there will be food and drink at the Bay St. Lawrence Community Centre.
