Allan’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Allan Emerson Griffith on October 17, 2022, at the age of 96 years. Al was the eldest son of George and Daisy Griffith, also of Moose Jaw. He is predeceased by his wife, Vivien, in 2007. Al served in the Canadian Armed Forces, enlisting as a teenager in 1945, but did not see any action. He spent two months in basic training and the last four as a discharge clerk. After the war, he met his wife Vivien (Machan) while working at the CP freight office. They were later married in 1948.
Al was a self-employed electrician (A.E. Griffith Electric) for most of his working life; then was hired by the federal Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) where he worked for 25 years. He travelled extensively throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba performing electrical services at PFRA community pastures and various other facilities. He spent considerable time at the Indian Head Tree Nursery converting overhead lines to underground ones.
Intrigued by all forms of gadgetry and new electrical wonders, Al was always fixing, installing and servicing electrical things for family and friends. Summers spent at the Buffalo Pound Lake family cottage were both memorable and eventful – a particular joy to Al and Viv as it was often the location for many an extended family celebration or gathering. After retiring in the early 1990’s, Al and Viv enjoyed travel adventures in their motorhome, touring the southern US and northern Mexico.
Al is survived by sons Jerry of Regina, son Rory (Dawna) of Kronau, and daughter Chris (Brian) of Lumsden. He’s also survived by brother Grant Griffith (Eileen) and sister-in-law Gail Griffith, as well as grandchildren Jared Calder (Aleigha) of Red Deer, Aynsley of Lumsden, plus Brynn Griffith and Callan Griffith, both of Regina. Al was a beloved ”GG” to his surviving great grandchildren: Fynley Calder-Rasmussen, Katie Calder, Josh Calder, Isla Kessler, Olivia Calder, Kincade Kessler, Sawyer Kessler, Emery Ursulak and Lewis Ursulak. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Celebration of Al’s life will be held as a come-and-go gathering at the Moose Jaw Prairie Oasis Motel event room (44) on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 3 to 5 p.m. Flowers are graciously declined. In his memory, donations to the Moose Jaw Humane Society are encouraged.
We extend sincere thanks to the Moose Jaw Home Care staff of the Five Hills Health Region for their kind help and support.
In living memory of Allan, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd.
