Obituary of Alfred Butz
On April 19, 2022, Alfred Philip Butz, late of Earl Grey, passed away at the age of 96 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Ludwicka Butz; brother Eddie Butz; and sisters Martha Bell, Tina Scherle, Lenora Kiel, Helen Hubick and Barbara Ring. Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary; daughter Leanne (Garth Wicks); son Kelly (Debbie Hupka-Butz); grandchildren Nathan Wicks (Cassandra), Donovan Wicks (Cindy), Kristen Schmidt (Tom), Matthew Butz and Katelyn Butz; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
They say you can take a farmer off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the farmer. Alfred always asked how the seeding, haying, harvesting, calving, etc., was going. He was caring and thoughtful to everyone that knew him. He always enjoyed playing a game of cribbage or watching the hockey, baseball, curling or football games on TV. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sporting events and rarely missed a game.
Taking a springtime drive in the country to see if the farmers were in the fields yet, was one of Alfred’s favorite things to do. His family will honor that tradition with a private interment at Fairy Hill West Cemetery, near the farm home he loved and missed so much.
Special thanks to all the health care professionals along the way that helped him reach his tender age. A life well lived!
