Alberta Louise’s Obituary
Alberta Louise (Murphy) Oickle, 72, MacLellan’s Brook, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, January 17, 2022 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Louise was born in Sheet Harbour, daughter of the late Charles Albert and Trixie Louise (Bezanson) Murphy. She was a lifelong care giver, starting her career as a nurse in Halifax and later on becoming a teaching assistant for special needs classes and then as a teaching assistant for many years at Thorburn Consolidated from where she retired. She enjoyed her work immensely, but she also really enjoyed retirement. Louise was born to be a grandmother. She cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her grandchildren and was overjoyed when she became a grandmother. Louise also cared deeply for her friends and did her best to take care of them when they needed her and that care was always reciprocated.
Surviving family are her daughter, Jennifer (Neville) Hawthorne, Calgary; son, Darren (Cathy Henderson), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Abigail and Oliver Hawthorne; Grant, Riley and Mikail Oickle; sister, Joy (Louis) Theriault, Ontario; brothers, Leeroy Murphy, Dartmouth; Victor (Iris) Murphy, North River; Johnny (Pam) Murphy and Dale Murphy, Sheet Harbour along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Louise was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Wayne Bernard Oickle.
A private service will be held at P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow with Father Thomas MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in Castle Hill Cemetery, Mac Lellan’s Brook at a later date.

  1. My deepest sympathies to the entire Murphy and Oickle families. Louise and I grew up together and shared so many times together. Our most fun was working at the Movie Theatre together where we shared so many laughs and stories. Memories of time at our grandparents while our Mom’s played cards also come to mind, as well as many family get togethers.
It saddens me to know that Louise will no longer be with us but may she Rest In Peace.
    Sincerely, Reta (Spears) McKay

  2. Rest peacefully my dear friend, God will have the gates open for you with open arms. To Darren & Jennifer, and all Louise’s family my heartfelt sympathy. I will treasure her stay with me this past week and will miss her dearly. Love Sandra

  3. To the family of Louise (Murphy) Oickle,
My heartfelt condolences for your loss. The Murphy family were my neighbours in Sheet Harbour and although it was many years ago, it’s always a sad day when losing a childhood friend.
