Walter Albert “Skip” Smith
December 10th 1944 – October 29th 2022
The family is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Walter Albert Smith. He passed away in his home on October 29, 2022. Albert is survived by his only daughter Erin and grandchildren Christopher, Kaitlynn, Breanna Stewart & Solara Silver. Albert was the oldest brother to his surviving siblings Alberta Monture, Victor (Kim) and Cheyenne Smith. Albert was predeceased by his partner Karen Christine Powless and his parents Alma Claira Bomberry and Albert Smith, brothers Daniel & Leroy Smith and nephews Lanny Martin and Frank Burning.
Albert was a long-time member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied trades. He travelled around Turtle Island throughout his life painting bridges and other new buildings like the Toronto Skydome. Albert was also a lifelong harness racing horseman and belonged to Standardbred Canada as an owner, trainer and driver like his Father and Grandfather before him. Albert was a boxer in his younger years in Buffalo, N.Y. and he won the Golden Glove title around 16 years of age, earning him his nickname; Skip.
Albert was an enthusiastic story teller of all of his adventures and could always reminisce about the old days. He always had a story for everybody. He was always so enthusiastic and had a love of country music. He will be immensely missed.
Visitation for family will be held on Wednesday November 2 at Styres Funeral Home, 1798 4th Line, Ohsweken from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Public visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service and Burial will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Medina Baptist Church, 400 Chiefswood Rd., Ohsweken. www.rhbanderson.com
