Albert Lawrence Cunningham Thursday January 6th 2022

Cunningham, Albert Lawrence– age 89, of Overton, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away peacefully on January 6, 2022 at The Meadows Home for Special Care. He was a son of the late Herbert and Grace (Ayres) Cunningham. He had fond memories of growing up at the Cape Forchu Lighthouse where his father was the lighthouse keeper. Albert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He thought the world of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was a jokester and social butterfly who loved to tease and be around people. He was great at making up playful tunes about his friends, family, and those around him. Albert was a well-respected old-timer lobster fisherman whose work ethic was second to none. If something was worth doing, it was worth doing right the first time. His strong work ethic has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. A devoted sports fan, in his younger years, Albert was a member of the Overton Outlaws and fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Albert had a passion for bowling where he made lifelong friendships. He loved the outdoors and was an avid duck hunter where he spent many cold days with Donovan, his nephews, and cherished friends. Albert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Stella (LeBlanc); children, Donovan (Jenny) Cunningham, Overton; Andrea (Brian) Downie, Halifax; Darlene (Fred) Emeneau, Tantallon; grandchildren, Shane Cunningham and Garrett Cunningham, Erin (Alex) Nuschke, Beth Downie, Adam Downie, Brandon Emeneau, Julie Emeneau, and Sarah Emeneau; and great-grandchildren, Nash Cunningham and Wes Nuschke. Albert was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and besides his parents, was predeceased by his siblings, John, Herbert, George, Imogene Baker, and Betty Sweeney, as well as his nephew Steve Sweeney. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A celebration of Albert’s life will be held June 11 at 2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Father Henry Smolanaars officiating. The family will receive guests 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow in Jacob’s Loft Event Center above Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Albert’s family would like to thank the staff at both Yarmouth Heights and The Meadows for their kind and compassionate care, especially Doctor N. Horton and Dr. J. Chandler as well all the wonderful staff at Trillium House. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund or a charity of your choice.
