Agostino “Gus” Michelizza, 82 years, passed away at Health Sciences North on Friday, January 21st, 2022. Born in Tarcento, Italy, Gus was a resident of Sudbury from the time he arrived in Canada as a young man of 22 years of age. He was fiercely proud of his Friulano heritage.
A talented upholsterer, Gus owned and operated Agostino’s Interiors for 35 years. Creative, artistic, and clever, it seemed that he could fix or make anything, and if he didn’t know how, he would figure it out. Generous in spirit, he would help anybody out in whatever way he could. Gus was also a talented athlete: he had a black belt in Judo, and was an avid downhill and cross-country skier, scuba-diver, and tennis player. His sense of adventure led him around the world; it seemed there wasn’t a place he hadn’t been, or a body of water he hadn’t swam in. Always appreciative of good food and a nice bottle of wine, Gus lived his life to the fullest.
Gus was cherished by his family. Son of Delfina and Elia Michelizza both predeceased, Gus leaves behind his brother Giuseppe “Joe” (wife Marisa) of Garson, and his sister Laura (husband Gabe) Tomassoni of Bracebridge. Gus was always very close to his nieces and nephews, Lisa, Dino (wife Tammy), David, Michael, and Sylvia (husband Robin), and he dearly cared about his nine great nieces and nephews, who are also so sad to lose their Zio Gus.
As per his request, there will be no visitation or service. A special thanks to all of the caregivers who looked after Gus over the years including his final weeks at HSN. In memory of Agostino, donations may be made to the Sudbury Food Bank or Parkinson Canada (donate.parkinson.ca). Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.
