Obituary of ADELA LUCJA DUBICKI
Peacefully, after a short illness Adela Lucja Dubicki passed away with family by her side on June 5, 2022 at the age of 89 years.
Adela was predeceased by her parents early in life and most recently (6 months to the day) by her husband Anthony.
Adela is lovingly remembered by son Robert (Nancy), grandchildren Tyler and Samantha, and son Jim (Elizabeth), sister-in-law Sophie Targonski, nephew Richard (Bunny) Targonski, niece Lucy Thompson and extended family in Australia, Germany, Scotland and the USA.
Adela was born near Kociubince, Poland and started life on the family farm. In 1949, Adela and an aunt immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg.
Adela initially worked as a cutter in a sewing factory. She was a hard worker and was soon upgraded to a sewing machine operator. A skill she never lost having sewn for her family. Mom also helped with costumes for The Polish Dance Troupe Iskry, when her son Jim was a member.
Mom loved to dance. She would attend the youth dances at Sokol. It was at one of these dances where she met her lifelong sweetheart and soon to be husband Anthony Dubicki. This resulted in a beautiful October wedding in 1957. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last October.
Adela loved being outdoors and the family spent many afternoons at Winnipeg Beach and Seven Sisters picnicking and playing on the beach. Adela had a green thumb and always had a large and bountiful garden. Trips for mushroom and blueberry picking always resulted with tasty treats.
Adela was an accomplished self-taught cook. Her kapusta, golompki, borscht and sandyland (mushroom) soups were the best. We always left with a bag of Moms goodies after a visit.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many road trips to visit friends in Canada and the USA. For their 25th anniversary they toured England, France, Switzerland and Italy. The highlight was seeing Pope John Paul II. Another memorable trip involved taking their grandson Tyler and visiting Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary.
Mom and Dad decided to buy a cottage in Belair in 1990. It was a great place to relax and play cards with friends for over 20 years.
Family was everything to Mom and she was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
We’ll all miss you Mom …. Sleep well
