Quinn, Blanche Dorothy
January 3rd, 2022
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Blanche Dorothy Quinn, surrounded by the love of her family. She left this earthly life on Monday, January 3, 2022, at Victoria Hospital, London. She was predeceased by her husband and soulmate Col. Ed Quinn (February 2015); parents Fred (1974) and Dorothy (1983) Purves of Sarnia; and brother Bob Purves (2018) of Sarnia. Blanche will be missed by her children and their spouses Robert Quinn (CL) of Toronto, Diane Bayley (Nicholas) of Toronto and Raymond Quinn (Katharine) of London. Also surviving are her six adored grandchildren: Peter, Matthew, Carolyn and Rat Bayley and Maggie and Trevor Quinn; sister-in-law Betty Quinn (Alf 2016) of Kenora; brother-in-law Trevor (Norma) of North Battleford, as well as many nieces, nephews, and first and second cousins. Blanche was born on July 9, 1935, in Sarnia, Ontario and spent all her elementary and high school years there. She moved to Toronto in 1953 where she received her RN Diploma from the Toronto Western Hospital in September 1956. Having never regretted her choice of profession, she nursed in many venues: St. John’s, Newfoundland; Oromocto, New Brunswick; London, Kingston, Toronto, Ottawa and Sarnia. She was married to Ed on December 19, 1959, and from that time on her husband and family were always her first priority. She kept very busy in the winter as a ‘Figure Skating and Minor Hockey Mom’. Ed’s postings and promotions dictated their many moves. After Ed’s retirement (1987) they stayed in London and enjoyed many years in their Westmount retirement home. Their summers were spent on the beach at their Grand Bend cottage and winters saw several trips to Florida and Mexico! Their travels were restricted from 2004 onward as Ed become more and more incapacitated. There will be a private family interment where Blanche will be laid to rest beside her husband of 55 years. Memorial service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Blanche are asked to consider the McCormick Home Foundation or the Autism Society of Ontario.
If all the friends that e’er I’ve had
Are sorry for my going away
And all the family
That still I have
Would wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I’ll gently rise and I’ll softly call
Goodnight and joy be with you all!
SEE YOU LATER!
– Blanche
