Darlene McEwan 2022

It is with great sadness that the McEwan family announces the passing of beloved wife, mother, nanny, sister, aunt and friend, Darlene McEwan of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Darlene passed away on April 11th, 2022, with her husband by her side at St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Darlene was born and raised in Fort William and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. After she and Bob were married she remained home to raise their three children. Once their children were all in school she chose a career working with children with special needs and became a student support person for the TBCDSB. Most recently retiring from Corpus Christi School.
Darlene enjoyed camping, gathering with friends and family and spending time with her grandsons. She lit up any room that she walked into, usually with her natural sarcasm and quick wit. During the last 10 years she battled cancer with tremendous courage and strength without ever uttering a complaint.
Darlene’s pride and joy were her two grandsons. You could often find them colouring, reading, watching tv, and going camping. She was their Nanny and they were her everything.
She is survived by her husband Bob, her daughter Tara (Scott) Sutherland, her precious grandsons Bode and Kase, son Kory, mother Lydia Feser, sister Dianne (Paul) Joy, sister Lorraine (Bob) Baird, and brother Jim (Anne) Feser. She is also survived by brother-in-law Bill (Leona) McEwan and sister-in-law Karen (Mike) Sandrin, uncle and aunt Ralph and Lynn Feser, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Darlene was predeceased by her dad Harry Feser, son Scott and in-laws Bill and Mickey McEwan. There is much comfort in knowing Darlene is now with Scotty.
Darlene was a one-of-a-kind friend to many and any event was more fun when she was there. She was always willing to lend an ear and a laugh when needed. She was a compassionate woman with a humour and wit that drew people to her. We are all the better for knowing her and her presence in all our lives will be dearly missed. Her life was our blessing, and she will never be forgotten.
Darlene knew great love, great friendship and great laughter.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life for Darlene will be held on Friday, April 22nd at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the TBCDSB Awards Trust Fund (Scott McEwan Memorial Award).
