Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John (Jack) Bromilow Duns, 95, from Vancouver, British Columbia, on April 4th, 2022. Jack was a beloved and dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, and friend. His wisdom and guidance were the foundation of his family, and he flourished in his career with pride and integrity in order to provide for those he dearly loved.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jocelyn (Peter), Lorraine (Terry), Janine (Rob), Pat (Eamonn), Dave (Andi), by his grandchildren, Sharon, Sandra, Scott, Brian, Karen, Elliot, Hannah, Mason and Riley, by his great-grandchildren, Zachariah, Jamison, Hadley, Johnny, Scarlett and Leo, and his nephew, Gary (Art), as well as his step-sons Bob, Doug (Leilani), Jim (Judy), Steve (Maureen), step-daughter Jane (Steven), step-grandchildren Erin, Fiona, Liam, Nicholas and Alexander, and great-grandchildren, Avery and Aiden. Jack was predeceased in passing by his first wife, Angele, married for 27 blessed years, his second wife, Margaret, married for 30 cherished years, and to his sister Peggy (Cliff), nephew Russel, and his great-grandchild Cameron.
Jack was born and grew up in Vancouver. In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing and with two friends, he built a log cabin up Mount Seymour, where they spent almost every weekend. In those days, one hiked up the mountain as there were no roads. He also headed the First Aid Ski Patrol for some years.
Jack and Angele met while both working at Shell Canada Ltd., and married on August 8, 1953.
The family moved often throughout Canada with Jack’s career with Shell, settling back in Vancouver in 1967. Subsequent to Angele’s passing in 1980, Jack retired from his 37-year career with Shell in July of 1983. He took to traveling in Europe and Africa, enjoyed sailing, playing poker, and spending time annually on a ranch with his close friends. Jack remarried in February, 1992 to Margaret Gormican, and shared many adventures with traveling and cruising, playing Bridge and Gin Rummy, puzzling, and games of Saturday night scrabble with Joyce and Gerry Higgs.
Following the passing of his wife Marg in 2021, Jack moved to Vancouver Island, where he received loving care from the staff at Avenier Memory Care, who went above and beyond to make Jack’s last six months meaningful and memorable.
A celebration of life will be planned in the coming months.
