Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Pearl Annette Embree of Calgary, Alberta. Pearl passed away peacefully on April 9 at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary. Pearl was the youngest child of Evangeline and Freeman Embree, born in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia June 29, 1944. After her mother passed in 1959, Pearl travelled to Germany with her sister Irene’s family, where she met her future husband, James Millar, a member of the Canadian military. Pearl and Jim had three sons; her first child was born in Germany after which they returned to Canada. While in Winnipeg their second child was born and their youngest child was born while stationed in Shilo, Manitoba. The family then moved to Kingston, Ontario, and were subsequently posted to Germany for a second time (Lahr & Baden Baden). The family returned to Canada and moved to Calgary, Alberta, where they lived until 1980. After Jim retired from the military, they moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Pearl moved to Calgary in the mid 80’s to be closer to her children.
Pearl was very close to her siblings her entire life and travelled frequently to her beloved home of Port Hawkesbury on Cape Breton Island. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and curling. She was very giving of her time to several organizations and beyond volunteering, she donated to causes that she strongly supported. Pearl loved the Calgary Stampede and even in retirement worked for the Stampede for the ten days every year.
Pearl was predeceased by her father Freeman Embree; her mother Evangeline Embree; and her stepmother Ruth Embree. As well as her brothers and sisters Ruth Dunlop, Kathleen MacInnis, Margaret MacKay, Marie LaFramboise, Irene MacIsaac, Jimmy Embree, Bert Embree, Peter Embree, and Beverly McQuarrie.

As well as many nieces and nephews who will always remember her larger than life personality and dedication to family. Pearl loved and adored her sons and grandchildren, and they were the primary focus of her life, right until the end.
