Edward Earl Perrin Sunday April 10th 2022

A/Sgt. Edward Earl Perrin (December 7, 1925 – April 10, 2022)
Earl was born in Cambridge (Galt), Ontario and passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 96. A lifelong resident of Cambridge, Earl was a wealth of history about the Perrin and Trussler families in the Waterloo Region. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces (1944 to 1946) with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment in Belgium, Holland, and Germany with the 4th Armoured Division. To our knowledge, he was the last living veteran of WWII in Cambridge and The City is considering naming a roadway in his honour. Earl was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Josephine Carmelite (nee McKenna); parents Edwin Perrin and Mabel Trussler; siblings Grace Lehman and Gladys Roseburgh, and son Jimmy. He is survived by sons Doug of Cambridge and Ron (Terri) of Calgary, as well as seven grandchildren: Jacqueline Cruickshank (Adam), Jordan, Matthew (Jessica), Jason (Amanda), Stuart (Kayla), Sean (Adelheid) and Carmen Neville (Joel); plus 11 great grandchildren, and many relatives in the Kitchener-Waterloo area as well and England, plus Carmel’s extended family in Ireland and the USA. In 1953, Earl married Carmel (who was from Monaghan County, Ireland) and they spent most of their lives together in their home on Lowell Street N. He worked at Mundy’s Shoes in downtown Cambridge for many years and eventually became the store’s owner. After the store closed, he worked in the accounting department at Canadian General Tower until he retired at age 60. He loved nature, especially birds, raising homing pigeons for many years. He enjoyed gardening and long conversations with friends on current political and business events. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the following people for the kindness shown to both Earl and Carmel over the years: Cindy Good, Rita Campbell, Mary Roseburgh, Joel and Julie Mercer, and the extended McKenna and Trussler families, near and far. Sincere gratitude for the extraordinary care received from Chartwell Queen’s Landing Retirement Home’s team (especially Rosalyn McKay), where Earl resided since late 2019. And acknowledgment of his special friend, Mary, whom he met at Chartwell. Thank you to the staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for their care during his final days. A celebration of life, for Earl and his late wife Carmel, will be held at a later date. In honour of Earl’s military service, in lieu of flowers, expressions of condolence may be made by donation to the Canadian Red Cross, to support relief efforts in Ukraine, would be appreciated.
