SMITH, Lynn Marie
Our hearts are already heavier with the passing of our beautiful mom, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Lynn Marie Smith. Lynn passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lynn was born November 8, 1967, in Sydney, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Maisie (MacLeod) Smith. She is survived by her three sons: Nicholas, Ryan, and Thor; her two brothers Bob (Maureen) Smith and David (Kelly) Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, and her life-long friend, Donna Hagen, who was one of her biggest supporters.
Lynn worked at Resi-Care for over 30 years. She was passionate about her work and the residents were very fortunate to have her caring for them. It was so much more than a job for Lynn; the profession was truly her calling. The residents became part of her family. In fact, there were many family occasions that included the residents. Christmas on Topshee always had extra plate settings and presents under the tree.
If you want to know what a “hockey mom” looks like, you would look no further than Lynn. She was an avid cheerleader for the sport. She met a great group of friends through this venue. Lynn loved spending time with family and friends; especially her girl trips, vacations, and family gatherings which brought her so much joy. Lynn’s boys, the boys; so many of her conversations were about Her Boys. They were her light; her reason for being. She was a mom above all else to the very end.
Special thanks to the palliative care doctors: Dr. Ritter, Dr. Aboud, and Dr. Burns; to the entire staff of the palliative care team; to Lynn’s oncologist, Dr. Saliba; her family doctor, Dr. Kajetanowicz; the VON team and a special acknowledgement to Leah Burns for her attention and care when it was needed the most.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys Church on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Bill Burke officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund or the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton
Lynn was a bright shining light; may a piece of that light stay with those who loved her.
