Gérard Goguen, 93, passed away peacefully at Villa Providence in Shediac on April 6, 2022. Born on July 1, 1928 in Saint-André-LeBlanc, he lived in this village for a good part of his life before moving to Cap-Pelé and Shediac. He was the son of the late Alfred Goguen and Marie (LeBlanc) Goguen.
Gérard was known as a savvy entrepreneur with an ability to lead teams of workers. He began his career in forestry in British Columbia. He went into business in the 1950s in the logging industry. In 1956, Gérard opened a lumber camp which employed up to 25 men in Saint-André-LeBlanc and later in the Sus area. A hard worker, he also operated his 100-acre wheat farm and later transformed it into a cattle farm.
For more than 30 years, Gérard managed his heavy equipment company, Goguen & Sons, in road construction and all types of land development work.
Once retired, Gérard embarked in the business of harvesting Christmas trees and started a nursery which was very successful in the region, including Quebec. Throughout his career, Gérard was recognized as an entrepreneur who was fair to his employees and took pride in a job well done.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Gérard cared about the well-being of his family. He is survived by his children; five daughters: Rachel Goguen (Steve Jones), Monique Pooley (Dan), Joanne Bourque (Réginald), Odette Richard (Paul) and Claire Goguen; three sons: Léo-Paul, Marcel (Louise Collette) and Roland (Héléna); a sister Huberte Dunsmuir (John); 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Marie-Anne (Boudreau); by two sons: Francis and André, four sisters, Marguerite, Dorilla, Alvetta, Thérèse and his brother Camille.
The family will receive condolences from the Ste-Thérèse d’Avila RC Church’s Slumber room of Cap-Pelé on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, from 6pm until 8pm. The visitation will continue Thursday, April 14th, 2022, from 2pm until the time of the Funeral Service at the Church at 3pm. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery at a later date.
In memory of Gérard, a contribution to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
