Dr. John James “Jack” Simpson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. J.J. (Jack) Simpson, 90, at home on March 31, 2022. Beloved husband of Adele (nee Smith), for 62 years, and loving father of Carolynne Harrison (Rick), John (Donna), Michael (Lee) and Lori-Ann Roman (Paul).
He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Christopher, Lauryn, Jonah, Joshua, Samuel, Veronika, Emily and Kate; his sister June Sharp, sister-in-law, Julia Simpson and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Anna (Kedra) and George Simpson, his brother Bert and his sisters Wanda and Helen.
The youngest of five children, Jack grew up on Bellwoods Avenue in Toronto. He accelerated through Charles G. Fraser public school while also participating in sports and activities at the Columbus Boys Club, a few doors from home. At Parkdale Collegiate, he was on the track and football teams. Jack graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, in 1954 at the young age of 22. After a brief service as a Canadian Forces Dental Officer, he set up his dental practice at Bloor and Runnymede where he practiced for 43 years. Successive generations of families from Bloor West Village and the GTA received dental care from Dr. Simpson during his career. He also was a UofT Faculty of Dentistry Clinical Instructor for 2nd year dental students for 15 years.
Jack had many friends and dental colleagues. He enjoyed golf, tennis and skiing (often at European destinations) as well as cottaging with good friends. As a Toronto Argonauts season ticket holder, he followed them on their way to several Grey Cups. His sharp sense of humour, caring approach to patients and love of life, sports, reading and music (especially Frank Sinatra) sometimes enhanced by scotch and a cigar, were all part of the fabric of his character.
His support for his family was unwavering and will not be forgotten. He was much loved by his immediate and extended family and patients.
Friends may call at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto on Sunday April 10th, from 1 to 4 p.m. A Funeral Service to take place in the Chapel on Monday April 11 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
