Mildred McEachern 2022

The death occurred peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, of Mildred McEachern nee Keown at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville. She was 96 and was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Murray McEachern. They are survived by their 3 children: Andy McEachern (Valerie), Ruth McEachern-Ross (Charles) and Penny McEachern; 5 grandchildren, Robbie Drebitt, Anna Haley (David), Amy Aubin (Stephen), Murray Ross (Lee), Grace McEachern, Donald McEachern (Shannon) and 6 great grandchildren; Travis and Ethan McEachern, Myla and Harper Haley, Hallie and Elijah Aubin.
Known locally as Grandma Millie, she was born and raised in Dwight and helped her mother and siblings run Gouldie House.
Her life, apart from raising her family and spending time at the family cottage on Red Chalk Lake, was busy doing extensive volunteer work. A member of Knox United Church and the UCW, member of Dorset Lifeliners, Brownie Leader, Camp cook for local Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders patrols at Doe Lake and Adelaide camps. A member of the Tall Pines Snowmobile Club, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and canvasser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society for over 35 years. She also served with the Wrens during World War 2, joining up when she was 18. Her expertise at making butter tarts was legendary in Dorset and beyond.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Muskoka Landing who took such excellent care of Mom during her last years. We also appreciate the kind condolences expressed by family and friends. Burial and service at Paint Lake Cemetery will take place in May. Further details may be found on Mitchell Funeral Home’s website when arranged.
