Tribute
Millicent Alexandria Jacobs
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Millicent Alexandria (Russell, James) Jacobs (“Millie”) on Thursday, February 10, 2022. She passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario, in her 94th year. Millie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Victor (married December 18, 1948), son Allan, daughter-in-law Margriet and youngest son, Michael, brother Patrick James, sisters June Joseph and Faith Lacey. She is survived by her son Paul, daughter-in-law Jeanette (Michael), brother Bob James, sisters Pauline, Jennifer, Vivette and sister-in-law Pamela (Patrick) James. Millie was a beloved grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and a great-grandmother of fifteen great-grandchildren. Millie will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, loving, conscientious, strong, discerning woman with an adventurous spirit.
Her sense of mission led her to the nursing profession (where she practiced in Jamaica, England, Canada and the United States). Her orderly and fastidious nature led her to excel in several areas of nursing, including a high position as a renal transplant Registered Charge-Nurse. Millie would strive to maintain high standards not only in her profession but also within her personal life, focusing on the greater good. Her faithful Christian life led her to serve at St. John’s Anglican Church (Mississauga) and St. Paul’s Anglican Church (Barrie) as a devoted member of the choir and congregation. She was an active Sandy Cove Acres resident; despite her health, she could be found at the yearly Canada Day Parade. Singing was a passion for Millie, especially with friends of the Community Singing Group, The Covets. Her grit and determination were apparent; she withstood her health challenges to joyfully sing at local retirement homes, decked out in fabulous costumes, ‘just to cheer them up’. She will be missed.
A remarkable woman in many ways, she was determined to live in her cozy home in Sandy Cove for as long as possible. The family would like to thank the staff at Bayshore Health Care and the personal support workers (PSW) alongside the St. Elizabeth Nursing staff for their dedication and compassionate care that allowed her to do just that.
We would like to thank everyone for the kind support during this challenging time. Cremation has taken place at Innisfil Funeral Home. Millie’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at St Paul’s Anglican Church Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 54 St. Paul’s Crescent, Barrie, Ontario. The Service will begin at 11 am, followed by a Reception at 1 pm. For those not able to attend, it will be live-streamed (Link to come). St. Paul’s will comply with the Covid-19 restrictions and government-mandated protocols. To be seated in the church, arrive 30 minutes early. Millie loved flowers, but please support the charity of your choice.
Forever Together, Millie’s final resting place will be alongside her beloved husband, Victor and son Allan at St John’s Crematorium in Mississauga, Ontario. For more information, call Jeanette Jacobs 705-436-7607 or email jacobs.josh@yahoo.com.
