Margaret Elizabeth Van Vliet 17 décembre 1932 27 mars 2022

À la mémoire de
Margaret Elizabeth Van Vliet
17 décembre 1932 –
27 mars 2022
Passed away at Brampton Civic Hospital on March 27, 2022, at the age of 89, four months after the death of her beloved husband Dick. Predeceased by her parents, Norman and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Hill and her sister Lois (Bob) Lindsay and brother Les Hill. Predeceased by husband Dick’s siblings, Neil and Peter Van Vliet, Betty (Bert) Millenaar and Agnes (Murray) Brunskill.
Survived by brother-in-law Bruce (Ellie) Van Vliet. Loving mother of Anne (Ron) in Oakville, Ontario, Jane (late Jim) in Twinsburg, Ohio and Michael (Elizabeth) in Sydney, Australia. Cherished grandmother of Andrew (Laura), Michael, Graham and Sarah McClure, Grace and Hayley Tschudy, and Katherine, Abigail and Tessa Van Vliet. Proud great-grandmother of Arthur and Elizabeth McClure. She will be sadly missed by her numerous Hill, MacDonald, and Van Vliet nieces, nephews and cousins.
Margaret was born in North Bay and grew up in Callander and Smooth Rock Falls. A child of the Depression and World War 2, she was recognized by the RCAF as their youngest aircraft spotter, aged, 10, for her diligence in reporting during the war. She trained in nursing at Toronto Western Hospital and graduated in 1954. She graduated from U of T with a diploma in Public Health. She worked as a public health nurse in Northern Ontario prior to her marriage, and as a nurse at Toronto West Detention Centre, Ontario Correctional Institute, and Sheridan College in Brampton.
She was a generous spirit, devoted to her family and maintained friendships lasting 70 years. She was an adventurous traveller, enjoying trips to the Middle East, Switzerland, the Grand Canyon, crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary and numerous visits to Australia, (including the Sydney Harbour bridge climb) and Ohio to visit her grand-daughters. She met numerous medical challenges in later life with courage, determination, an optimistic spirit and uncomplaining nature, a fighter until the end.
A lover of cryptic crosswords, lunch with friends, road trips, CSI, CNN and Anderson Cooper. She was the centre of our family and beloved matriarch, a wonderful woman and it is hard to imagine life without her. Her wisdom, wit and kindness will always be remembered.
A special thank you to her PSW, Jilly Anne Wisdom, of Bayshore Home Health, for her devoted daily service to Mom, over the last two years.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W) on Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Norval. Reception will follow at Norval United Church, Georgetown.
