Luciano Cherubino Pen Sunday March 27th 2022

It is with pain and deep sadness we announce the passing of Luciano Cherubino Pen, at the age of 73. Born in Azzano Decimo, Italy in 1948, he was the second youngest of eight siblings: Elio (Nellie), Fernanda (Mario), Sergio, Maria (Renato), Santina (Franco), Rosie (Eugenio) and Elena (Gian-Pietro) born to Elisa (née Favret) Pen and Enrico Pen. There, he grew up on a large family farm, went to school during the day and played competitive soccer at night. When he turned 18, he moved to Canada where he joined his two older brothers. Here, with perseverance and hard work, over a period of 40 years he built a successful business in construction building beautiful custom homes. Being in Canada, especially Northern Ontario was a special joy for him, because he loved being outdoors surrounded by nature and lots of open space. He could be seen outdoors puttering in his yard all hours of the day and night, no matter the weather or time of year. When outdoors, he not only used the time for solitude but also to rub-elbows with neighbours chatting and joking, often inviting them in for a glass of his homemade wine. He loved to laugh with others. However, nothing made him happier than seeing the members of his family laughing and sharing a good time. He loved to see his grandkids: Abigail, Isabel, Maia, and Marcus, play, dance, and tumble around, often joining in on the action! He took pleasure partaking in wilderness and fishing adventures with his son Eric (Cora), and his son-in-law Speros (Elisa). He enjoyed sharing jokes and stories with his son-in-law Klay (Vanessa) and his brothers-in-law Marty (Shirley), and Jimmy (Lisa). He was the zio to many nieces and nephews who remember him for his infectious laughter, witty comments, and sense of humour. Most of all his immense joy and pride came from his immediate family, wife Dianne (née Kolar), and his children: Elisa, Eric and Vanessa. Together, Dianne and Luciano raised a devoted family that they both cherished dearly, centering their lives on them, always making sure everyone was taken care of. When Luciano was not working, he and Dianne would tend to their gardens, cook, and travel. They shared their love of family sacrificing time alone to be with them. He had a special and unique way of imparting words of wisdom to his kids, one-of-a-kind sayings that can never be forgotten. He was taken far too soon, after several health complications left him weak and tired. Luciano loved flying, and was often heard saying, ” Do not take on problems, fly over them.” He is flying now. Luciano, may you fly in peace. Funeral Visitation at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St., at Hazel St., Sudbury on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 2-4pm with words of remembrance at 4pm. A reception will follow. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, donations to Health Sciences North, ICU Department would be appreciated.
