It is with
sadness and relief that we announce the passing of Joan Irene (Humes)
Duffield.
Joan was
born in Moncton. She was the daughter of the late Leo and
Irene (Terris) Humes.
She is
predeceased by her son Earl Duffield. She is survived by her
husband and best friend of 67 years Barrie Duffield, her daughters
Thelma Duffield (Ed Haines) and Kimberly Duffield (Mike Kierstead),
son-in-law Ken white and sister sylvia
Humes.
Joan had 2
grandsons, Jayme (Rachel) and Jason (Megan) and great grandchildren,
Xander, Haley, Jack, Charlie and
Beverly.
Joan was a
beautiful person with a huge heart. She loved her family and her dog
Maggie.
Joan worked
hard her whole life, from hairdressing to babysitting, taking in
boarders, log home video (with Kim and Earl), Log Home Country Popcorn
and a host to Barrie’s Sports at Burntland Brook Lodge on
the Miramichi river for 28
years.
Joan loved
music, camping, 4 wheeling, bonfires, the woods, time spent at
Thelma’s camp and travelling. Highlights being a
three-month trip across Canada, hauling a travel trailer to Alaska and
back thru the USA. Many cruises and 27 winters spent in
Florida with Barrie and her Florida
family.
Music was a
great comfort to Joan in her last years, many afternoons spent
enjoying concerts with her family and friends and a little wine,
dancing to Bee Gees, Simon and Garfunkel, Il Divo, Neil Diamond and
many more.
Many thanks
to Kindred, especially Lorraine for her special care when Joan was
home.
Thanks to
Pine Grove staff for all the kindness and care in Joan’s
last three months. There will be no visitation by
request. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held
at a graveside service at a later
date.
Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would
be appreciated
