Betty Lockwood 2022

It comes with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Betty Lockwood (Rand). Betty is the oldest daughter of the late James( Jim) Rand and Shirley Rand (Baker). Our mother adored her Mother and Father and with the effects of dementia would walk across the road to the home that was her parents’. Hilltop Drive was her home for over 60 years. In the last year Mom would often go to the window and look across the road and say that she “just wanted to go home”.
Loving wife to our father Ray Lockwood with whom she spent over 55 wonderful years with. The love for his wife was very evident as Mom became more ill and even with his own health condition Dad vowed to look after his wife at home, until the end. We tried our best but fearing for her safety , with a heavy heart in December we had to admit Mom to the hospital. After staying at the hospital until early March she was moved to Muskoka Landing. To the nurses of the South Wing at the hospital, you are absolutely wonderful people. Also thank you to the doctors and nurses at Muskoka Landing during her short stay. Thank you for all you do.
Many people will remember Mom for the years she worked at Economy Fair, Home Hardware and IGA to name a few. Sports fans and players will remember her cow bell each time they scored or made a save. Mom would stop and talk to anyone at any time; especially if she saw a dog or a child. Mom was also a hockey and lacrosse mom over the years, helping out in any capacity she could. Our home on Hilltop Drive was a regular stop for numerous hockey kids after school and regular visits on weekends and holidays with all of her nieces and nephews. “Aunt Bett” spent many hours with those children which was well documented by the hundreds of pictures she kept.
Mom is survived by her sister Pat Hope(Rand) brother in-law Wayne Hope; Brother David Rand sister in-law Kim Rand(Fisher); and brother Marvin Rand sister in-law Lee Anne(Rose). Gramma to Jack Lockwood , Amber Lockwood, Sam Lockwood and Chistian Poirier.
In the past year Mom enjoyed phone calls and visits so much. Dementia mixed with Covid made these even more enjoyable. Thank you to moms friend MaryAnn for the visits and phone calls. To Moms great friend Cathy Cowen , you made her life a better place. For that, we thank you and Mitchell for your friendship.
We would often read her old birthday cards that she saved. She has several from our Aunt Pat. She read them over and over and when we said “ that’s from your sister Pat”. Mom would always smile and say “ She’s a really nice lady”. Thank you Aunt Pat and Uncle Wayne for the visits to the house, hospital and keeping tabs on our Dad as well.
To our Uncle Dave, Aunt Kim and family. Mom loved walking across the road to see the dog, to just say hello and to come in for coffee(sometimes at 3am). Especially thanks for BINGO night. Thank you for being a second or third set of eyes keeping our Mom safe. Thank you for being so patient for those visits that became more than daily as time went on.
We were blessed to have a ‘wee’ Mom like we did. She wasn’t big in size but was a giant in personality and we knew where we stood with mom. She was a sweet, kind soul. The end of a life is the start of lifelong memories. We have many. Thanks Mom. Those will never end.
Ray, Robbie(Jennifer) and Jamie(Shannon)
Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held in “Bettys Garden” at her home. Dates will follow
