Brian Michael Urso Tuesday March 22nd 2022

Brian Michael Urso
September 29, 1959 – March 22, 2022
Brian Michael Urso passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, at North Shore Health Network (Blind River Site) after an awe-inspiring, four-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 62 years old. Brian leaves behind his cherished wife of 32 years, Tammy (Maitland), and his beloved children, Elizabeth (Justin Lefebvre) and Matthew (Rachel Belanger). Dear son of Ernest (Ernie) Urso and Doris Urso (Wright), both predeceased. Youngest brother of David Urso (Holly), Brenda Carter (Alex), and Robert (Bob) Urso (Kim). Cherished uncle of Cameron (predeceased), Nikki (Nick), Bailey (Brett), Alexander, Katie, Ben, and Olivia. Brian is also survived by his in-laws, many cousins, close friends, and devoted dog, Sophie. Brian was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. He walked “uphill both ways” (as he’d have his children know!) to St. David School, and later graduated from Sudbury Secondary School (though, oddly enough, never mentioned walking there …). He went on to study Electronics at Cambrian College in Sudbury and Biomedical Engineering Technology at Fanshawe College in London. Brian was an avid drummer, playing many a Caruso Club wedding with the band, Volare. He remained very close with his bandmates (and dear friends) Enzo, Joe, and Mario. Brian worked most of his career in the Sudbury healthcare system and, after retiring from Health Sciences North in 2018, relocated to Blind River with his wife, Tammy, where they made their cottage their “forever” home. Brian was always happiest puttering at the lake and treasured his “Lake Duborne Family” (including the “Sudbury Crew” who joined for Blind River’s annual Community Days). He also volunteered his time as a Patient Advisor at Health Sciences North, lending his new-found patient expertise in hopes of improving healthcare in the North. Brian was a fiercely loyal, pragmatic, hard-working man who valued his family above all else. Of his many titles (such as Choc and Chicken Man), husband and father were his favourite. He was especially proud of his children and could always be found at a hockey game or horse show or with his nose in a fiction manuscript he wouldn’t have otherwise touched with a ten-foot pole. He lent the same encouragement to his children’s friends, always making sure that they felt seen, heard, and important. He was a passionate storyteller and a family history enthusiast (a love he shared with his aunt, Lina Steel). His zest for life and unwavering wit will be forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. Sincerest thanks to Dr. Cano and the nursing staff at the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury, “Nurse Carla” from Bayshore Nursing, and Dr. Zhou, Dr. Shamas, and the nursing staff at the North Shore Health Network (Blind River Site) for taking care of Brian in his final days. Your compassionate, selfless, patient-centered care will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Shore Health Network (Blind River Site) would be greatly appreciated. Memorial Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 2pm. (Friends may gather after 1pm Monday).
