Gerald E. McSheffery
1935-2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Edward McSheffery
of Moose Mountain, NB announce his death which occurred on March 21st,
2022 at his home at the age of 86. Born June 11th, 1935 in Moose
Mountain, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Higgins)
McSheffery. He was also predeceased by 3 brothers; Joseph (Patricia),
Raymond and John McSheffery and 2 sisters; Anne Kilfoil (Harold) and
Margaret Lavoie (Ferdinand).
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Velda (nee
Robinson); 3 daughters; Vickey Stewart (Jerome Fitzgerald) of
Dartmouth NS, Beverly Deveau (Jim) of Beechwood NB, and Gail
McSheffery (Marlin Heinrich) of Gjoa Haven Nunavut; 2 sons Jerry
McSheffery (Beverly) of Beechwood NB and Anthony McSheffery (Gail) of
Waterville NB. 8 Grandchildren; Sarah McPhee (Jeff), Amanda Stewart,
Garrett McSheffery (Kelsey), Whitney McSheffery (Josh Caputo), Dillon
McSheffery (Rebecca), Lucas McSheffery (Brittany McIsaac), Emily
McSheffery and Taylor McSheffery (Will Rintoul). 6 Great
Grandchildren; Breton & Genny McPhee, Sloan & Gordon
McSheffery, Savannah McSheffery and Sadie Rintoul.
Gerald is survived by one brother Eugene McSheffery of Holmesville NB,
Several sisters in law; Jean McSheffery of Osgoode Ontario and Marie
McSheffery of Bath NB, Eloise Craig of Rockland NB, Barbara Fowler of
Royal Oak Mich USA, Judy Nixon (Fred) of Calgary AB, Dianne Hansen of
Fredericton NB, Cheryl King of Stewiacke NS, Margaret Anne Robinson of
Berkley Mich USA. One Brother in Law, Terry Robinson (Rosalind) of
Jacksonville NB, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended
family.
Gerald lived nearly his entire life on the McSheffery homestead in
Moose Mountain. As a young adult he worked in farm labour for local
and area farmers. For some years he operated heavy equipment in wood
harvesting and road building operations for HJ Crabbe and Hilton
Crain. He worked for NB Dept. of Highways as an equipment operator for
21 years until his retirement in 1995. Gerald enjoyed life at the
mountain, his front porch view and had many enjoyable pastimes;
working in his woodlot, gardening, snowmobiling, camping and
maintaining his property. He loved music and for many years enjoyed
dancing with his life partner. He enjoyed the outdoors and had many
trade skills.
He worked faithfully in his church community and the Knights of
Columbus and his faith sustained him through the rough patches in
life. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and spent his entire
lifetime providing for and supporting the people in his life. He shall
be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207
Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 4-8
pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 28,
2022 at 11:00 am from St. John the Evangelist Church, Johnville. Fr.
Anthony Ekpe as celebrant. The interment will be in the Johnville
Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest
donating towards the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, River Valley
Cancer Support Group, Johnville Cemetery, Martin Kilfoil Fund or a
charity of the donor’s choice.
Gerald’s family would like to thank Dr. Colin Lockhart and Dr. Margot
Burnell for looking after his health for many years.
