Obituary
Shirley Joan Dickeson of Tamworth at age 88, passed away peacefully, at Kingston Health Sciences on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Richard “Dick” Dickeson and loving mother of Kelly and Tammy (Chris) and the late Mark Dickeson. Grandmother of Jeffery and Zachary (Katie) and Zoë (Dan) and great-grandmother of Fynnian and Isobel. Sister of the late Bill Hawkins. Shirley was born in Powell River, British Columbia. Shortly thereafter, her family moved and she grew up in the Ladysmith/Oyster Bay area of Vancouver Island. She graduated with a degree in home sciences from UBC. When settled in Ontario she taught at E.S.S. in Odessa. After the move to Tamworth, she became a business woman running The Sewing Basket and later the Corner Store. Shirley was a very social person. She enjoyed square dancing; acting in the theatre and soon had Dick making sets for the stages; planning parties at the house; curling; her book club; travelling and having her family and friends close by. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Shirley’s Life will be held at the Hannah Funeral Home, in Tamworth (613-379-2997) on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment follows at the Christ Church Cemetery Columbarium. Memorial donations made to Heart & Stroke or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
