Obituary
Ruth Marie Norman (nee: Dunphy; nee: Newhook)
Age: 79 years old
It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Marie Norman (Dunphy, Newhook) at L.A. Miller Centre at 12:17 pm on March 16, 2022. Following a battle with Cancer, Ruth died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones.
Ruth was known as a well read, very kind, gentle, and senistive person who loved a great joke. She loved well, and was loved by all whom she knew. She loved ATVing, Ski-dooing, travelling with her husband George and was well known for her delicious caesars at gatherings. Ruth loved to cook, and was never afraid to try new recipes.
Ruth is predeceased by her first husband (James Boyd Dunphy);parents: Verna (nee Knight) and Ellis Newhook and brothers Rodney Newhook and John Newhook.
She is survived by her husband George Norman, Sisters: Shirley Newhook, Muriel Newhook-Palma, Judy Newhook, Sandra Nicholas (Ed) and Donna Kelly (Rod Kelly). Children: Lisa Poirier (Marcel Poirier), Linda Dunphy (Tammy Murray), Nancy Dunphy, James Dunphy (Sunny Seo); Step Children: David Norman (Glenda), Kathy Butt (Terry), Susan Norman (Thomas), Bev Freeborn (Troy); Lynn Murphy (Jody). Grandchildren: Andre Poirier, Ian Poirier, Olivia Blundon, Julianne Bouzane, David Norman, Terri-Lynn Sears, Sheldon Brown, Kimberly Clendenning, Victoria Freeborn, Adam Freeborn, Hannah Murphy, Grace Murphy. As well as many many great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Rather than a funeral or service, Ruth preferred to simply remain in the memories of all whom she loved. In time, some of her ashes will be spread on her mothers grave with the rest spread at Badger Lake near the home her and her husband (George Norman) shared for 8+ years before moving to St. John’s, NL.
We would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre for their gentle thorough care of Ruth in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre (cancercarefoundation.ca) or the Salvation Army in Newfoundland (salvationarmy.ca).
