Obituary of Crystal Kotow
KOTOW, Dr. Crystal (MA, Ph.D.)
It is with great sadness that we announce, Dr. Crystal Kotow, 37 years old, suddenly passed away on March 14th, 2022. Crystal will be tearfully missed by her parents, her Mom and best friend, Sandy (Tytgat) Kotow and loving Dad, Joe Kotow. Dear sister of Vicki Jules and husband, Mesac. She also gained a love like no other when her nephew, Sylvestre “Sly” came into her life.
Crystal will be deeply missed by her grandmother, Betty Kotow, and her many aunts and uncles, Crystal Kotow-Sullivan (John), Frank (Jenn Fortier), Cathy Dockman, and late Mary Beth Kotow, Dan Tytgat (Shelley), Cathy Tenbroeke (Ed), Brian Tytgat (Sherra), and many cousins that she adored. Crystal has joined and been welcomed by her beloved grandparents, Andy Kotow and George and Theresa (nee Strong) Tytgat.
Crystal grew up in Es, Ontario and moved to Toronto, Ontario where she lived for many years. She taught at York University and George Brown College. Crystal worked and continued going to school to achieve her PhD. She completed that goal, her Doctorate in Philosophy with focus on Women’s Studies; graduating from York University in August 2020.
Crystal was an accomplished writer and was hired for her dream job as ‘Coordinator of Quality Assurance and Curriculum Development’ at St. Clair College this past fall.
Crystal loved her family and friends. She loved planning weekend getaways, trips, and celebrations. Crystal embodied many qualities: she was vibrant, kind, passionate and an intelligent woman with an infectious laugh; she loved fashion and always looked stunning. She leaves behind a treasured “village” of friends from Toronto and her loyal friends from Es. Crystal was a talented baker and had a successful side business of making amazing cheesecakes, cookies, and treats.
Crystal lived life by her rules and is an inspiration for this.
“She wore her scars as her best attire. A stunning dress made of hellfire”. Daniel Saint
