Obituary
Richard Grant Brown aged 65 passed away peacefully on Friday March 11, 2022 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon MB.
Rick was born July 31, 1956 in Killarney MB to Victor Brown and Mae Brown (Riter). He was the oldest of three children, including a brother Randy and a sister Susan. Rick grew up in Brandon. He graduated from Vincent Massey high school in 1975 and then attained his Business Administration diploma from ACC in Brandon.
As a young person in Brandon his exceptional strength and size allowed him to excel at sports, particularly baseball and hockey. He continued his hockey playing into his adult life playing last with the Baldur Barons until his health kept him from playing any longer.
In the summer months and on most weekends he spent time at his grandmother’s home in Ninette. During one of those summers he met the love of his life, Jeanne Boulet.
Jeanne and Rick were married July 21, 1979 and lived in Brandon for a time before eventually moving to Dunrea MB in 1988. Rick and Jeanne have three boys, Anthony, Collin and Thomas.
Rick worked for Red Carpet Coffee services in Brandon before the family moved to Dunrea. He went to work for McCain Foods in Carberry until a further change in his health forced him to retire. He also worked for Doreen Moggey for a time helping her get the Hot and Frosty restaurant in Ninette launched.
More than anything Rick enjoyed meeting people and would always take the time to stop and have a coffee and catch up with friends and really with anyone as this was his kind and generous nature. Playing cribbage and darts was also a passion of Rick’s.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Jeanne, son Anthony and wife Brandi and grandchildren Savanna and Sophie of St. Andrews MB, son Collin and wife Tanis of Calgary AB and son Thomas and wife Branyn and grandchildren Braylee, Turner and Hadley of Wawanesa MB. Also left to mourn is his mother Mae Pankiw and husband Jim of Miami MB, his father Vic Brown of Brandon and brother Randy and wife Elaine of Brandon as well as his sister Susan and husband Maurice of Winnipeg. In addition he leaves behind many aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and cousins in the Brown and Boulet families as well as many friends.
Despite Rick’s many health struggles he maintained a positive attitude and always offered a smile and a kind word.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of Rick’s life will take place at a later time. Donations in Rick’s memory can be made to the Assiniboine Centre palliative care unit in Brandon MB.
