Obituary
Lew Jerome Dumontet was 65 years young when he left us far too soon on March 5, 2022 in Penticton. He was an exceptional son, brother, friend, husband, brother-in-law, uncle, dad, father-in-law and grandpa. Lew is survived by his wife Jane of 43 years, children Bryant (Jody) & Eryn (Brandon), grandson Bishop; mom Pat; siblings Ross, Sue and Paul (Christianne); in-laws Drew (Steve), Doug (Rania), Mary Ellen (Cam), and Rob as well as 10 nieces & nephews and eight greats. Lew is predeceased by his dad Rolly and sister Barb.
Lew spent over 35 years in electrical and plumbing distribution with Westburne Electric, Gescan Electric and Western Supplies rising to senior management roles. He was respected for his direct and honest approach and was never afraid to express contrary views. Lew was often sought out for his sound advice and counsel both at work and at home.
Lew had a generous and giving spirit; he was always willing to lend his truck or tools and help out in whatever way you needed. Lew was there, in an umbrella hat on a rainy Sunday at the soccer field, at a cold arena for speed skating practice or simply in the room in comfortable silence. At any gathering you could find Lew at the BBQ or in the kitchen perfecting his cooking or taking the time to explain to you how to cook or carve something. The door was always open with room at the table for family or friends. At any meal he would wait for everyone to be plated and seated before he would start eating.
Lew was the tech guy for family and friends (including the younger generation). He took the time to scan old family photos and transfer videos to DVD for everyone’s enjoyment. His love for music was legendary and broad from classical to heavy metal. He put together playlists for friends and family, tailored to their taste and always added something new that he thought they would enjoy. His record collection took years of effort and was generously shared. He was always acquiring stereo equipment ensuring family and friends had a good home set-up for an enjoyable listening experience.
He could not get out fishing enough and regularly had a trip on the horizon be it with family or his fishing buddies. He was a talented photographer. Many biking trips were enjoyed with Jane, as they cycled different parts of BC keeping a ‘captain’s log’ of their journeys. His unwavering love, respect and admiration for Jane was often commented on. Together they would do the New York Times crossword every Saturday to which he would contribute three answers as he humbly felt that’s all he was good for.
Many late nights with friends and family were enjoyed with wine, scotch, music and laughter. He was a second dad to many of his children’s friends as everyone felt instantly accepted and cared for by him. Lew was a remarkable person and role model who will be dearly missed. His beaming smile and sparkly eyes are remembered in his grandson Bishop.
In ‘Lew’ of flowers please consider a donation to Bryant who is cycling in the BC Cancer Foundation Tour de Cure this August: tourdecure.ca/fundraiser/dumontet.
