James’ Obituary
KEDDY, James Ernest “Jim”, “Jamie”, PO2 ~ aged 69, of Aylesford, Kings Co., NS, passed away suddenly at home March 12, 2022. Born into a military family, Jim and his siblings spent their youth at many Air Force bases across Canada, France and Germany. The family was very active in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, and many weekends and holidays were spent camping in both Canada and abroad. Jim joined the Canadian Navy and sailed submarines and ships on both the east and west coast as a marine engineer and clearance diver. He enjoyed his posting to the recruiting office at CFS Sydney (1982-1985) and was very proud of his military service. Upon retirement in 1988, the family moved home from CFB Esquimalt to NS and Jim began a second career driving long-haul for both Big Wheels and then Merks’ Farms. He spent many years “on the road” and enjoyed his time behind the wheel, but eventually traded that lifestyle for a job at Fraser’s Pro Hardware where he could be home every night. Most recently, he worked as a highly regarded newspaper delivery man for The Chronicle-Herald. His sudden passing has impacted many lives, in many ways. Jim was very proud of his family and was quick to share their news and accomplishments with anyone who would listen, and most recently pictures of his new granddaughter. Jim served as a Beaver leader in Aylesford for a few years, loved camping, a walk on the beach, gardening, a game of cards and watching his beloved Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. Jim is survived by his wife, Sarah (Franey); children, Jeremy “Jay” Andrews (Krista Jarvis), Bedford; Matthew “Matt” Keddy, Dartmouth; and Elizabeth “Liz” Keddy (Roberto Giglio), Milan, Italy; and grandchildren, Parker and Oliver Andrews and Sara Giglio. Jim is also mourned by his sister, Sandra (Lou) Wassenaar, Thunder Bay, Ont.; uncle, Ernest “Ernie” Armitage, Schooner Cove; in-laws, John and Frances Franey, Kentville; Stephen (Linda) Franey, Morden; several nieces and nephews and many cousins. Jim was predeceased by parents, Sgt. John William and Dorothy Mary (Armitage) Keddy; twin brother, Cpl John Fredrick Keddy; and nephew, Michael James Wassenaar. There will be a Funeral Service in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Highway 1, Aylesford, at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, with Rev. John Moses officiating followed by a time to visit with family in the Church Hall. All are welcome, but facemasks are required, please. A live webcast of the service will be available for viewing on the funeral home website beginning at 2:55 p.m. ADT, Thursday, March 24, by selecting the “Live Stream” option at the top of the home page.
