Albert “Peter”‘s Obituary
HOLDEN, Albert Bertram “Peter” – 90, Port Clyde, Shelburne County, was born August 16, 1931. Peter passed away on March 8, 2022, with loving family by his side. Peter was the first of nine children born to Harley Campbell and Bertha “Jean” (Bower) Holden in Jordan Falls. Peter is predeceased by his parents; sisters (and their husbands), Joan Margison (Mac), Patricia “Pat” Scott (Everett), Audrey Bell (Jack), Constance “Connie” deMolitor (John); brother, Harley Holden and his wife, Marilyn; brothers, Murray “Sam” Holden and Garth Holden; and granddaughter, Meagan Holden (daughter of Bob and Alice). Peter is survived by his lifelong companion and wife of 66 years, Shirley Holden (nee Stoddard); their four children; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren: Avril Holden-Kearns (Gerald); grandchild, Suzie (Bell) Headge (Richard), and great-grandchildren, Hugh, Skarlett, and Amelia; grandchild, Sylvia Bell. Edward “Ted” Holden (Suzanne Russell), and grandchild Theora Holden. Robert “Bob” Holden (Alice, nee Perry); grandchild, Scott Holden; grandchild, Ryan Holden (Lacey Young), and great-grandchild, Cohen; great-grandchild, Kate (daughter of Meagan). Kirstin Nelson (Casey); grandchild, Kalie Burke, and great-grandchild, Kaleb; grandchild, Christopher Burke. Peter is also survived by sister, Vivian Scott and brother-in-law, Frank Scott, and sisters-in-law, Shirley (“Sam” Holden), and Janet (Garth Holden). After his early years in Shelburne County, Peter joined the RCAF in 1954, serving at bases in Bagotville QC, Chatham NB, Ottawa ON, and Greenwood NS. Highly committed to the maintenance of family connections, the away years were punctuated with an annual summer pilgrimage to Port Clyde and Beaver Dam. Retiring from the Armed Forces in 1974, Peter resettled their family to Shirley’s hometown of Port Clyde NS. Peter worked 5 years for the family business, RD Stoddard & Son, followed by 14 years for the Corps of Commissionaires at Baccaro. Peter grew up with a love of nature and always had an avid interest in hunting and fishing. For those who knew him well, the pursuit often outweighed the results. The journey into the outdoors was the destination. In retirement, Peter discovered the world of computers and flight simulators and prided himself in having “flown” (virtually) across Canada twice and around continental USA once. And when away from his computer, Peter began a model ship-building hobby that culminated in the building of several replicas of iconic Nova Scotian ships that were occasionally on display at the Shelburne Museum. Peter saw the humor in everyday life and reveled in the telling of a good story. He was a bright and cheery soul who will be missed by his family and those who had the pleasure of his company. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, March 12, at 2 pm, at H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. Memorial donations in his name may be made to Bay Side Home, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
