Don Rosekat Tuesday December 28th 2021

Don Rosekat
April 05, 1938- December 28, 2021
Don passed away with family at his side. He was in palliative care at home for six months. He leaves behind his loving wife Donna, sons Steven (Kathy) and Bradley (Jodi), granddaughters Carine and Diamond Story, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, three brothers David (Sandi), Michael (Candice), Stephen (Terri). Predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Harry Rosekat.
Don worked as an electrician for the I.B.E.W. Local 804.
Don and Donna met on a blind date in January 1962, married on October 27, 1962. Son Steven was born in 1964 and Bradley in 1968. Don drew up plans for their home himself, and with help from friends and his sons, they built their last home.
He excelled in sports. Basketball, hockey, swimming, running, baseball, and golf. He served as president of the Highland Classic Ten Pin Bowling League, won a silver medal for pole vaulting for Eastern Canada, and was chosen to be part of a special honour guard when Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited Kitchener.
Nothing gave him more joy than playing golf with his brothers and having their monthly coffee at Tim Hortons.
Don’s sons were part of the Canadian armed forces. Steven retired after 26 years; Brad still serves. They excelled in their careers and Don and Donna are so very proud of them.
Don and Donna, early in their marriage, drove to Mexico with Donna’s sister and husband, Gloria and Merv Schmidt. For their 25th wedding anniversary, they went on a cruise. Four years later, on Gloria and Merv’s 25th anniversary, they all went on the same cruise together.
Their family loved dogs. They had four German Shepherds over the years. Now both sons carry on loving their dogs.
They attended W.M.B Church, meeting every Tuesday with their small group and every Sunday for services with another group, all good friends. Here he met his best friend Doug Day and every Wednesday they met for coffee at McDonalds for over ten years (trying to solve the world’s problems.)
Don was never happier than when Donna played the piano. The music was a comfort to him when in palliative care.
Many thanks to our wonderful family, friends and W.M.B Church for your support, flowers, visits, phone calls, meals, and prayers.
Thank you to Pastor Gareth Goosen, and the prayer chain for your love and constant support. It will never be forgotten.
Special thanks to the palliative team of nurses, doctors, PSW’s, social workers, coordinators, and paramedics for your great care and compassion.
Don was a humble man who always saw the good in people and gave thanks for every day.
Micah 6:14
And what does the Lord require of you? To Act Justly. And to love mercy. And to walk humbly with your God.
Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID there will be no funeral service. A private family service will be held graveside at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.
Donations to the K-W Humane Society are greatly accepted.
