Passed away at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 4, 2022 in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Gloria (nee Nishizeki) for almost 50 years. Loved father of Tricia and Tannys (Alexander Smith). Cherished grandfather of Mila and Oakley. Dear brother of Michael Vause, Margaret Seabrook, Dorothy Collins (Mike) and the late Elizabeth Willgoss. Brother-in-law of Miyoko Okano (Joe), Tam Yamashita (Bob), Victor Nishizeki (Julie), the late Kiyoshi Nishizeki, and son-in-law of the late Seiji Nishizeki. Peter will also be missed by his Aunt Kaz Teramura and several nieces and nephews.
Peter was born in Manchester, England and immigrated to Ontario, Canada in his teenage years. Throughout his working career, he took great pride in his positions as a sales representative for food service equipment and healthcare. He worked at Canadian Rogers (1963-1980); Bert Johnson Enterprises (1980-1983); and then ventured out on his own as an independent sales representative covering Western Canada (1983-1989). He spent the largest portion of his working years with WD Colledge (1989-2006). In the last years of his career, he worked for Jaime Hellman (2006-2011). Throughout his life in Winnipeg, Peter spent quality time with immediate and extended family and frequent gatherings brought him great joy.
After retiring, Peter (and his wife, Gloria) moved to Grimsby, Ontario to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. As a grandpa (‘Gramps’), Peter was very close to his two grandchildren and was an active and loving grandparent. He loved active play with them, joking and laughing together, and was so very proud of them. Peter is described by many as a humble, gentle, kind man who always offered a listening ear and a helping hand to friends, family, and people he met along his path. He was always ‘that person’ who you could count on.
For a number of years, Peter volunteered at Power Cord, an accessible gym for people with spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. If desired, donations can be made to Power Cord. A celebration of Peter’s life will take place at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Friday, March 11, 2022, from 3-5 pm. and a memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Manitoba Buddhist Temple (39 Tecumseh Street, Winnipeg, MB) at 2 pm.
