Obituary
JOHN HOBBS John passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital. He was born on November 11, 1936, in Montreal, Quebec.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Doreen Hobbs, his parents James and Katherine Hobbs and brother Arthur Hobbs. Survived by daughter Suzanne, sons Barry and Brian (Karen). Loving grandfather to Myranda, Taylor, Ashley and Jonah and uncle to Donna (Dave), Kathy, Carol, Michael and Jennifer (Jeff).
John enjoyed a long and active life. He met and married the love of his life, Doreen Hobbs on the tennis courts in the Town of Mount Royal Montreal after 11 weeks of courtship. With his family, they enjoyed time together at a family cottage in the Laurentians and winter skiing at Mont Saint-Sauver and Mont Chrisitie.
After moving to Oakville, John continued his active lifestyle with friends and family on the courts at the Oakville Club, biking on the trails in Collingwood and Hilton Head Island, snowshoeing and skiing on the slopes at Craigleith Ski Hill. John was an enthusiastic member of the “Dawn Patrol”, retired colleagues who skied daily at Craigleith. John believed that being active was important to a long and healthy life. He passed 12 days after his last ski outing.
His business career ranged from pension fund management and venture capital to investment counsel. Most recently he was President of Valern Investment Management in Oakville.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations to the Stratford Festival or the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
