Obituary
William (Bill) Kenneth Cochet passed away on February 19th 2022 in Sechelt, B.C., surrounded by his wife and girls. He was 76 years old.
He was devoted to his wife Mary, happily married for over 53 years. She was his light. Bill is survived by his children, Michelle and husband Gary, Cherie and husband Dave and Jason and wife Stephanie. He was blessed with nine grandchildren – Britney, Tyson, Genai, Tres-Jessie, Tyler, Karissa, Brennan and Callum and two great grandchildren, Maleke and Valerie.
Bill was born on June 9th 1945 in Oliver, B.C to parents Frank and Peggy Cochet (predeceased). He spent his early years on the homestead there with his siblings Margaret, Lorne (Darlene) and Davena (Klause). In 1968, he packed up his beautiful new bride Mary and left Oliver to start their life together.
Bill apprenticed with Finning Tractor between 1968 and 1972 and continued his esteemed career as a Heavy Duty Mechanic with them for over 33 years. He was the resident mechanic on the Sunshine Coast from 1980, until his retirement in 2001.
Cars, namely Hot Rods, were his passion and those that shared in this lifestyle were his greatest friends. Attending Car Club rallies, poker runs and dances afforded Bill and Mary amazing travel adventures throughout Canada and United States. Bill and Mary were chartered member of the Coasters Cars Club. Bills “babies” included a 1923 Model “T” Bucket, 1931 Model “A” Roadster pickup and a 1964 Chevelle Super Sport. Bill was a gifted mechanic and welder, eager to help locals and friends on their projects.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Sechelt Hospital and Totem Long Term Care Center, as well as the staff at the Pender Harbour Health Clinic, namely Dr. Colin Sutton, Jennifer Hunsche and Rosalyn Mundy. Thank you to Elisabeth Calacal with Nurse Next Door for her exceptional in-home care.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at the Madeira Park Legion Hall starting at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pender Harbour and District Health Clinic in Bill’s name.
Although a man of few words, he was steadfast in his devotion to his dear family and friends. Bill was a strong, proud man and loved by many.
