Obituary of Karl Herbert Schulz
Karl Schulz, 93, of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022.
Karl was born to Paul and Erna Schulz on March 10, 1928 in Dingelsberg, Saatzig Pommern, Germany. He was brought up on the Schulz farm in Germany and learned a great deal from his father. During the turmoil of WW2, Karl was conscripted into the German army at age 16 and was a POW at the age of 17. Karl and his parents lost their farm after part of Germany was annexed by Poland after WW2. They started over in what was known as East Germany. The communists made farming and life in general very difficult so once again Karl and his parents walked away from their farm with nothing but God’s continued hand of protection. They were able to sneak out of communist occupied territory and into West Germany. From here they all immigrated to Canada in 1953. Karl settled with his parents in the Edenwold area where he worked as a hired hand. For the winter of 1956/1957 Karl worked in the aluminum smelters in Kitimat, BC. He and his parents had a dream of owning their own farm once again and were wisely saving money. Eventually he and his parents bought a farm in the spring of 1957. Karl married Barbara (nee Konrad) on December 28, 1957. Together he and Barbara worked on the farm and raised their family. Karl and Barbara placed great value in family, honest work, and generosity. But what was even more important to them was having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, God’s Son. They taught their children and grandchildren many important lessons in this regard while living on the farm.
In 2004 they sold the farm and moved to Regina and continued to be very involved in the lives of their children, grandchildren but now also their great-grandchildren. They also reached out to neighbours at Story Manor and made many good friends.
Being involved in church was an important part of Karl’s life. During the uncertainty and chaos of the aftermath of WW2, Dad made a stand and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was baptized on February 13, 1948, at the age of 20. When he immigrated to Canada, he was involved in the Edenwold Baptist Church. After the church closed the family attended Bethany Baptist Church (which still provided German teaching which was especially important for his parents), Balgonie Baptist Church and currently Faith Baptist Church.
Karl was predeceased by his parents Paul (1980) and Erna (1992); and his sister Charlotte (1935). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara; his three children Herb (Marcia), Doris (Craig Hagan), and Mark (Cora Lee); seven grandchildren Alicia Schulz, Daniel Hagan (Candace), Angela (Matt Hoffman), John Hagan (Raylene), Heidi (Carrington Klassen), Konrad Schulz, Kaleb Schulz (Marin); and five great-grandchildren; Magnolia, Samantha, Kate, Josiah, and Rhett.
This wise man is greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday March 2, 2022 at Faith Baptist Church, 437 Broadway Ave. E., Regina, SK, with an interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
