Obituary
HARDER, Audrey May (nee Swaffer)
Peacefully at Alexander Place Nursing Home, surrounded by her family, Audrey Harder passed away on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of the late Donald Harder. Loving mother of Heather Lynn (Andrew) Warner and Richard Donald Todd (Jennifer) Harder. Devoted Grandma of Glenn Norman Harder. Dear sister of Kenneth, Elaine, Robert and Donald and sister-in-law of Kathy, Ann, Peter, Jessie, Verna, Harry, and Martin. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Isabelle Swaffer, parents-in-law Gerhard and Anna Harder, brother Ronald, and siblings-in-law Doris, Menno, Edward, and George. Will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Audrey was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She enjoyed going to the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach, boating and waterskiing, and married the love of her life Donald Harder on June 4, 1960.
After Heather was born, the young family moved to Ontario to pursue new opportunities. Audrey held various roles in the banking industry and was the head of a foreign exchange department. She dedicated her time to her family and raising their children.
Audrey taught Sunday School and was a Brownie Girl Guide. As an adult she became a Brownie Guide leader. She lived her life always by the Brownie Guide promise “I promise to do my best, To do my duty to God and my country, and To help other people every day, especially those at home.”
She was fiercely devoted to her family and children. The family environment was very important to her with a sit-down family dinner every Sunday.
She supported her husband on his adventures and projects building custom homes after his retirement. She was an avid walker and enjoyed many outdoor pursuits like cross country skiing and golf. She was an animal lover and assisted on the horse farm in her later years.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the devoted care and compassion provided to Mom by her PSW’s these past few years, especially Manpreet, Shirley, Nida, Marissa and Muriel. Your passion and care for Mom was exemplary and will never be forgotten.
