Peacefully, on February 24, 2022 at Sarnia Ontario at the age of 83. Fr. Greg, descendant of John Selleck will buried in a family plot at St Alphonsus Cemetery. He is a direct decedent of Tom Selleck who was married to Mary Ann Montreuil. Beloved son of Francis Clayton and Frances Eugenia (nee Byrne). Dear brother of Wilfrid (Virginia), William (Patricia), Sister Rose Marie, O.S.U., Claire Marie DesRosiers (Alan), John (Barbara), Patricia Cumming (Robert), Marian Blonde (William Soulliere) and predeceased by infant brother Paul Joseph. Dear uncle to 20 nieces and nephews and great-uncle to 25.
Fr Greg was ordained June 1, 1963 at St Peter’s Cathedral by Bishop Cody. He served at Blessed Sacrament, London, ON, as secretary to Bishop Carter, at the Social Service Bureau in Sarnia, at Our Lady Help of Christians, Wallaceburg, at Holy Name of Mary, Windsor, as Chaplain at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor and Victoria of LHSC, London and as Diocesan director of Pastoral Care for Hospital and long term care for Catholics. He was especially devoted to fellow ministers of the Word of God.
Greg was known by his many friends and family as a compassionate and caring priest. He touched many, many lives in his various ministries as was evident by the cards and heartfelt greeting he received during his time at St. Joseph’s hospice in Sarnia. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the refugee ministry of the Diocese of London or the Diocesan Archives.
On Tuesday March 1, 2022 reservations and personal face coverings are required to attend visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (834 Raymo Rd). Bless Fr. Gregory, a kind and gentle man. He resided at St. Martin of Tours for about 3 years while he worked as Diocesan director of Pastoral Care LHSC. My thoughts and prays are with his family and friends.
