Campbell Donald David 2022

Campbell, Donald David
Don passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brief battle with cancer, on February 22, 2022, in his 94th year.
Beloved husband to the late Ruth Campbell for 65 years. Father of Christine (Yvan) Harvey of Wasaga Beach, and David (Jill) Campbell of Toronto. Grandfather of Erin (Justin) Banks & Ben Campbell-Hunt and Rachel & Caleigh Campbell. Great-Grandfather to Blaze-Anthony, Vivienne and Victor. Predeceased by his parents Purcelle & Muriel Campbell, sisters Elva (Heinz) Schneider and Marjorie (Robert) Crumpton. Predeceased by brother Robert Campbell and sister-in-law’s Ruth Campbell and Doreen Campbell and sister-in-law Katherine Lill. Loved by countless nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law of Eleanor Phipps of Toronto, and Brooke Lill of Beamsville.
Don was born in Chicago, the fourth of six children born to Purcelle & Muriel Campbell. The family moved to Montreal shortly after Don was born and after many more moves the family settled in Toronto. Donald was an avid sportsman, playing basketball, football, tennis, skiing and golf. Don was awarded a football scholarship to Western University, but after a football injury, returned to the University of Toronto for Business. After graduation he had a 28-year career with NCR, before opening a Mother’s Restaurant with two of his friends Bill Brown & Brian Skinner. Eventually he joined Ruth in selling Real Estate. Don made friends wherever he went, and has many friends all over the world.
Don and Ruth built their dream cottage at Georgian Peaks in 1969 and this became the focal point in their lives. Weekends and holidays were spent skiing, playing tennis and entertaining family and friends. Family was very important to Don and after his parents passed, he became the “Chief” of our Campbell Clan. Don was also very popular with the younger generations, as he listened attentively and shared sage advice. Don and Ruth retired to “the Farm”, outside of Thornbury, in 2002 where they continued to spend time with family and friends. They also enjoyed traveling together.
Donald was also a member of the Rob Roy Trout Club for sixty years and loved being on the stream and was very passionate about making sure the stream was in top shape.
Donald was a jovial/merry man that delighted in lending an attentive ear to anyone that had something to say. Don ceaselessly encouraged everyone he met, especially his grandkids, to believe in themselves and to be assured that success in life is living by your values. All he wanted was for those around him to succeed on their terms, which made him a great buddy to celebrate the end of the semester, a job promotion or a birth announcement. Don could routinely be found washing dishes after dinner, overlooking the majestic escarpment, filling up the bird feeder and laughing loudly with Ruth, often over a Papyrus birthday card or joke from their friends. His charm was palpable, his warmth was comforting and his integrity unmatched. We would like to especially thank Dr. Stephen Langford and his staff, the staff at Raglan Village, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, Campbell House Hospice, and Right at Home.
