It is with great sorrow that the family of Edward Bengert announce his passing on Thursday, February 17, 2022 in Trail, BC after a short illness.
Ed was predeceased by his son Ted and daughter Shelley. He is survived by his loving wife Arlie, sons: Scott, Steve Bengert (Karen Jorgensen), Lance (Betty); grandchildren: Jennifer (Brent) Hicke, Teddi (Daniel) Taylor, Veronica Bengert, Kristy Bengert (Richie Vachon), Sarah (Kyle) LaBoucane, Shelley-Anne (Kyle) Jorgensen, Laura-Lee Jorgensen (Jon Heatlie), Taryn O’Genski (Cody Dawson), his great-grandchildren: Aaliya, Corby, Zoe, Simon, Isaac, Garrett, Miller, Sully, Huxley, Keira and Boone as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan on July 3, 1933. He was the youngest of 14 children. He came to Sheep Creek, BC in 1952 where he began working for CMNS which became Cominco and is currently Teck. Ed retired from Teck in 1988. In addition to working for Teck, Ed owned and operated Eddie’s Septic Tank Cleaning Service for many years.
In 1952 Ed met and married his wife Arlie. In 1954 the couple moved from Sheep Creek, BC to Salmo, BC. Ed enjoyed hunting, camping with his family at Sullivan Lake and Box Canyon and visiting relatives. He especially enjoyed family and friends gathering. He would barbecue, make french fries and have a beer. A favourite pastime was watching curling on TV and softball at KP Park. He was an active member of the F.O.E. (Eagles) and the Royal Canadian Legion.
At Ed’s request there will be no formal service. There will be a private gathering in the summer of 2022. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in remembrance of Ed may be made to Salmo and District Health Care Auxiliary Society at PO Box 842, Salmo, BC V0G 1Z0 or to the Salmo Valley News Letter, PO Box 1044, Salmo, BC V0G 1Z0.
He will always be remembered and we will hold him in our thoughts forever.
