Obituary
Lovingly known as Baba to family & friends, Shirley passed away peacefully at the age of 73 years young in Hinton Alberta on February 14, 2022.
Wanting a better life for their children, Baba’s family moved from Vilna to Brule with brothers Peter and George in 1957. She spent her childhood growing up in Brule, attending the one room schoolhouse with fond memories and stories of other Brule families. She continued her education in Hinton by boarding with local families to continue her high school. Baba had a passion for caring, which eventually led her to finish her education by completing her Nursing Aide Certificate in 1971 in Edmonton. Being fortunate enough to land a job close to home, she met Grampa Jim and they were married in 1972. After working for a few years, then taking a short break to start a family with a new set of twins and a 7-year-old, she knew she still had more to give and continued working at the Hinton Hospital until her retirement in 2005.
Baba’s grandchildren were her life. She would often be found out for a drive or looking for a deal on yarn at the share shop or garage sales with the grand kids in tow. The deals she would find, along with a pair of skilled hands, would be turned into treasured gifts always given away.
Only second to her grandchildren was the love of her friends and coffee. She cherished the time she could spend having coffee with friends. This is where she could relieve the stresses of everyday life, laugh, cry or tell a funny story about her grandkids. This was a ritual that was not to be judged nor to be interrupted.
The rules were simple, start the day with coffee, afternoon nap, then coffee with friends at the L&W.
Survived by Neil (Lisa), Maddison & Max Testo, Shelby (Giselle), Elizabeth Testo, Twila (Todd) Myles & Sara (Kyla) Goolsby, all of Hinton, Alberta.
Surviving siblings: George (Marilyn)Hryckowski, Rick (Patricia)Hryckowski, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Predeceased by: Husband Jim Testo, parents John Hryckowski (father) Mary Hryckowski (Mother), brother Peter, grandchildren Ethan Testo and Riley Testo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to Hinton Share Shop or charity of the donor’s choice.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday Feb 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Hinton Alliance Church, Hinton Alberta.
