Obituary
After a brief stay in the Turtleford hospital, Peter Volk, left for the life beyond this earthly one, on February 16th, 2022.
Pete was born February 24th, 1931, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, to Gabriel & Clara Volk (Wutschik), who then moved the family to the St. Walburg, SK, area, where Pete grew up, married and raised his six children. He lived the remainder of his life in that area.
Strength, humour & perseverance was Pete in a nutshell.
He had the strength, perseverance and fortitude needed to raise a family on a farm, deal with all the uncertainties included in that lifestyle, actually get the often very intense, physical work done, and, if able to, still help anyone who may have needed it.
Blessed with an abundance of energy, he built his six kids outdoor skating rinks, which became the scene of many an intense hockey game with friends, family and relatives. He installed outdoor lights in order for a few in the family to practice their figure skating in the dark of night. Pete enjoyed sports, and especially hockey, whether coaching it, or watching it live or on TV.
He also loved to dance, and enjoyed countless wedding and town hall dances. He acted in a few local shows, rode in the occasional annual summer fair parade, and teased and joked with most anyone he saw more than once!
Pete loved life, and added a lot of laughter and good times to a vast array of different events and situations right up to his very last few days.
Pete was predeceased by: Ellen, his wife; Gabriel, his father; Clara, his mother; John, Gabriel and Max, his brothers; Maxmillion, Anton, Mike, and Joseph, his half-brothers; and Helen and Katie, his half-sisters.
He leaves behind: his children, Carol, Elaine (Doug Thompson), Dwaine, Lynn (Al Gates), Norma (Sergy Hritzuk) and Geraldine (Garvin Nasby); his grandchildren, Kyyan Volk, Joshua Thompson, Courtney Petkus (Volk) and Sheena Volk, Kayla Vandemark (Gates) and Casey Gordon (Gates), Jordan, Gerrid, and Cassidy Hritzuk, Trysta and Evan Nasby; and his great grandchildren, Victoria Thompson, Mayson, Norah and Mikayla Petkus, Ryder and Sadie Volk-Kanigan, Maxen & Axl Vandemark, Hunter and Halle Gordon, Gage and Hayden Hritzuk, Keegan, Aiyana & Drake Hritzuk, and London and Roman Bernard; and his remaining sister, Rose (Schneider).
From all of us:
Your perseverance when exhausted, and incredible self-sacrifice through numerous trials and difficulties, did not go unnoticed by any of us.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every single thing.
Good bye for now.
May every blessing you’ve ever hoped for, become yours for eternity.
“And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.”
