James Anthony Fitzgerald Tuesday February 8th 2022

James Fitzgerald- age 94, passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on February 8, 2022. Born in Comeau’s Hill on September 24, 1927, he was the son of the late Ralph and Cedulie (Harris) Fitzgerald and raised by the late Fidelis and Delphine Surette of Pinkney’s Point. Dad and his Twin Brother Joe were Altar servers for many years at St. Raphael in Pinkney’s Point. Dad was a man of great faith and attended mass until he could no longer get out, but he watched the daily mass on tv. He prayed the rosary everyday since I can remember, but when the Parkinson’s got worse, Dad could no longer use the rosary, but continued his daily prayers.
He was also a member of the Cursillo Brotherhood.
Known as a hard-working man, Dad started lobster fishing at a very young age. Dad also worked with his twin brother & nephews buying lobsters in Pinkney’s Point (which was his favourite job), Lakeside Inn, Old Grand Hotel, Cosmos Imperial Cotton Mill, painting houses and along with many other jobs. He finished his career at Alwood Products marking lumber until the age of 67. In his spare time, Dad was an avid sports fan and cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Red Sox.He also loved Boxing. Dad enjoyed listening to music, especially when Family & Friends would gather at their home Mom played her guitar and sang many song he loved. After all would eat rappie pie and goodies.
He was also was a lover of animals, and above all else, Dad was a kind and loving Husband, Father and Father-in-law. Dad cared so much for Jimmy who was like a Son to Him. They had a very close bond. When I was growing up Dad was always playing games with me along with all the kids of the neighbourhood. Our backyard was full of kids. Dad had a sense of humour especially when he & family members & would get together. Dad and Uncle Joe liked to play jokes on people and have a good laugh. They would talk practically all day on the phone, even watched sports on tv at the same time, they did not agree on some of the calls the referee would make, one would hang up and in a matter of minutes they were talking again.
Dad will be greatly missed and is now with Mom.I could have not asked for better Parents. I was truly blessed & I will hold Our memories in my heart forever.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (James) Doucette, Arcadia; brothers, Paul (Joan) Fitzgerald, Little River Harbour, David (Vicky) Fitzgerald, Abrams River, Bernie (Myrna) New Hampshire; Sisters, Catherine (Carroll) Saulnier, Pinkney’s Point, Lillian (Richard) Harvey, Sackville, Barbara (Richard) Muise, Meteghan, and many nieces and nephews. Besides both sets of parents, he was predeceased by his Loving Wife Marion of 62 years, Siblings, Twin Brother Joseph “Papa Joe,” Lloyd, Clarence, Delmar, Carl, Louis,Arthur, Cecil, Burton, Willard and Arthur in infancy. Also his Fur Baby Spot whom he loved so much.
We would like to thank Dr. Engels & the Staff of 3 South, Valley Regional Hospital, Dr. Roland Muise, all our Family and Friends for their calls and support they gave us during this difficult time. We especially would like to thank Yarmouth Argyle Home Support and The Caregivers who came daily over the past 4 years who gave Dad such wonderful care.
