Obituary
LORRAINE RUBY BEGGS (REIST) April 20, 1932 – February 11, 2022 Lorraine Ruby Beggs (Reist) passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on February 11th, 2022 in her 90th year. She is survived by her son Kenneth, her cherished grandson, James (JJ), her brother, Lorne (Patty) Reist and her sisters, Pat (James) Meek, Susan (Jeff) Hinton, Louann (Ken) Neuzil, Deborah (Blehr) McIsaac and Diane Hipson. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, James, in 2012, her parents, Leona Beckner (1981) and Arthur Reist (2004) and stepmother, Iris (Small) Kabel (2004). Lorraine lived her life in the Winterbourne and Elmira area until she moved to the Peterborough area in 2003. Lorraine learned early in life that work would get her to where she wanted to be and that work ethic lasted a lifetime. She started office work at barely 16 and continued until her marriage when Jim and her took on the responsibility of raising Pat, age 8, and subsequently their son, Ken. She returned to the out of the home work force in 1957 as a secretary at Raytheon Canada Limited. In 1964 she found her niche as a legal secretary at Zilliax & Wade in Elmira. This career in the legal field continued with subsequent positions in Robert Snyder’s office as well as the office of Cynthia Rudavsky and finally ending in Peterborough. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and became skilled and adept in many areas of law. Many clients became lifelong friends. No situation was too challenging for her to delve into and solve with her own law library. Traveling was a joy to Lorraine. Although Jim did not share her enthusiasm they did complete a driving trip to Alaska, his one dream destination. Lorraine’s three trips to Hawaii were dreams come true, particularly when she stood on a path with lava flowing near her feet. She was fortunate and thankful to travel with friends to Europe, Florida and the Caribbean, particularly Aruba. Every journey was special and left her with memories she treasured and never forgot. When not working she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, puttering outside around her property and caring for her beloved dog Spanky. Her family is thankful for and appreciated all the care and support provided by her neighbours and friends that allowed her to live independently in her own home. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service
