Robert Douglas Bjornson September 25 1945 February 12 2022

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Douglas Bjornson on February 12, 2022 at the age of 76 years.
Born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan to Magnus and Helen Bjornson. The family settled in the Regina area where Bob went to school and the University of Saskatchewn. He would marry (Marg) and have two boys (Robert Sean and Brennen Paul) settling in the Calgary area briefly before moving to Okotoks in the early 70’s.
Bob was an excellent athlete and excelled in baseball being inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame with the 1964-1965 Regina Red Sox Baseball teams. He also had a love for hockey; having played for the Regina Pats at the young age of 15.
Bob was a very proud member of the Calgary Fire Department and considered himself very fortunate to work with a great group of people doing a job he loved. Prior to his career with the fire department he was a member of the Calgary Police Department where he graduated top his 1969 class.
He was an avid golfer in his younger days and had fond memories of the Turner Valley Golf and Country Club. He would have many long friendships and good memories of the summers in Turner Valley. He loved the outdoors whether camping at one of his favorite spots, Blue Rock or fishing at Chain Lakes; these were his happy places.
Bob was a jovial man with a large presence. He was never one to hold a grudge, never one to avoid awkward interactions. He would always look to lighten the mood and find a common connection. His family was always his top priority and nothing made him happier than family gatherings. He took great pride in all his grandchildren, whether in the sports they played or excelling in their academics. He will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife of 20 years Barbara (Babs) Bastedo, his sons Sean (Diane) and Bren (Hilary), step-children Shannon (Jonathan) and Lindsay (Iain), grandchildren Dylan, Chrissy, Ty, Kyle, Grace, Crosby and Rohen, and great-granddaughter Evelyn, as well as his brother Ronald “Barney” Bjornson (Pat) of Cave Creek, Az, nephew Kris (Christen), nieces Candice Bjornson (Duane), Melissa Van Waes (Nelson), and nephews David (Marylou) Caron and Brent Caron, along with many cousins.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be scheduled for the summer. Please send an email to add your name to the contact list for more information: Brenbjornson@gmail.com

  1. Bob was a dear friend of Keith Schinnour many years. Loved like a brother they met in high school in 1959. They always kept in touch and visited. It was through Keith that I met Bob and Barb and connected instantly. The sweetest, kindest, most gentle human being ever met. We will miss him .
