Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dale Dwayne Flexhaug (Lee) on January 27th, 2022 in Vancouver, BC. Dale came into this world on Valentine’s Day in 1974 in Calgary, Alberta; a fitting day considering he had such a big heart and loved his family and friends dearly. He loved animals just as much, and could often be caught petting and talking to cats, dogs, horses, cows and donkeys at the family ranch near Nanton, Alberta, or giving names to all the animals he would see while walking through Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC – like ‘Bandit’ the racoon, ‘Oscar’ the sea otter, and ‘Pepé’ the skunk. While a gentle, kind, and sensitive soul, make no mistake: he was the most mischevious of the family. His wicked sense of humour and quick wit had everyone around him laughing all the time. His pranks were second to none, often targetting his sisters growing up (just ask them for stories!). He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, like playing cards, going for a Sunday drive, or eating his mom’s baking. Dale was a big thinker with a strong connection to philosophy, greek mythology, history and space. He took courses in Criminal Psychology at Mount Royal College, and went to Simon Fraser University to work on a BA in Psychology. Dale liked to help people and showed that through his work at the Developmental Disabilities Association in Vancouver, and as a volunteer phone line counsellor for the Vancouver Police Department’s Crisis Centre. He also had big feelings, and used art and music as outlets, often doodling and getting lost in his guitar. Dale is survived by his mom, Stephney; dad, Len; sisters Brandy (Ryan) and Dallas (Chad); nieces Brooke and Anabelle; nephews Bodhi and Sebastian; grampy, Doran; and the love of his life, Julie.
One of Dale’s favourite songs to play on the guitar was ‘Blackbird’ by the Beatles. The lyrics say: ‘You were only waiting for this moment to be free”. Be free, Dale. Your family loves you to the moon and stars, always and forever.
