Helen Melissa Eldridge
1934-2022
With great sadness, the family would like to announce the
passing of Helen Melissa Eldridge on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the
Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Pennfield on September 26, 1934,
she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Elma (Corscadden)
Hawkins. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased
by her husband of 41 years, Charles, her sister Jean Clinch and her
brother John. She is survived by her older sister, Shirley
Dobson of Ottawa, and her four children: Sally (Jack) Brown, Dawn
(Kevin) Downs, Heather Grant and Herbert (Cynthia) Eldridge.
She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremy,
Amanda, Kristy, Melissa, Jason, Lindsay, Cassie and David, as well as
great-grandchildren Luke, Zachary, Cameron, Emmersyn, Owen, Madalynn,
Jackson, Liam, Kevin and Anna. She loved all of the grand
kids dearly.
Helen was a retired school teacher who taught most of her 35
year career at Blacks Harbour School. She was an accomplished
seamstress, quilter and knitter. There were no craft projects that she
could not master and she completed them meticulously.
The kids have fond memories of special summer vacations every
year, like the trip to Montreal for Expo on July 1, 1967, trips to
visit cousins in Ontario, around the Cabot Trail in NS and the many
ferry rides to PEI. Helen and Charlie enjoyed their own
special road trips for several years to Florida with family and
friends.
Arrangements are in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George. Resting at the Pennfield
Presbyterian Kirk on Saturday, April 2, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am
leading into the service beginning at 1:00 pm with Rev. Eric Craigland
officiating. In Helen’s memory, donations to the Pennfield
Presbyterian Kirk or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be
apprecaited by the family.
