It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Ruth Bignell (née Bateman) shortly after her 99th birthday on February 2, 2022.
She was born on January 27, 1923, in Blackie, AB. Prior to marrying and moving to Trail, BC in 1943, Jean worked as a telephone operator in Calgary, AB. Once in Trail, she worked at the Assay Office at Cominco for a short time before stepping away to be a homemaker.
Jean loved to camp, travel, garden, bake, cook, crochet, knit, and sew. She also enjoyed entertaining, and often looked forward to her outings at the Arlington Hotel and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Jean is survived by many loving family members including her daughter Connie, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Oran, and her two sons, Ron and Gerry.
Thank you to all the caring staff at Rose Wood Village in Trail.
Jean’s interment will take place at the Fruitvale Cemetery beside her husband and their two sons. As per Jean’s request, there will be no service.
