With sorrowful yet grateful hearts, we announce the passing of Tony Rommens, beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Opa, Uncle, and Friend on February 5th, 2022, at the age of 96 years. Dad was born on September 16th, 1925, in Etten Leur, Holland. Growing up in a family of nine boys and three girls, Dad remained on the farm until he enlisted in the army and spent two years in Indonesia. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Cora Hermus. Soon after marrying on July 31st, 1951, Mom and Dad embarked on their ultimate adventure and immigrated to Canada. After landing in Montreal they headed west and settled in Rockyford, Alberta. This initiated a trend for other family members and brothers, George, Bert, and Bill, as well as brother-in-law, Tony, followed. Mom and Dad worked for various farmers with the goal of one day owning their own farm. This dream was realized in 1958 when Dad was grading county roads in the Antelope Creek area. He noticed some land for sale and jumped on the opportunity for them to own their own farm. During their farm life, Mom and Dad worked tirelessly and achieved great success in the dairy industry. Dad was very involved in many agricultural committees serving as a delegate for the Alberta Dairies, Unifarm, and Dinosaur Gas Co-op. After all their hard work, they retired to their new home in Brooks in 1995. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling, but most of all they loved their daily swim. Their love of this sport had them competing in the Seniors Games. Dad was quite adamant about being involved in the community and he served on the Senior’s Board, Town Parks and Recreation Board, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Council, and Meals on Wheels. Dad had a deep faith in God and was very active in his parish. Dad loved to talk about politics and was always ready for a lively discussion. He enjoyed watching sports, but his favourite by far was watching his grandchildren play. His cheers of encouragement were heard by all. Dad was very social and loved to stop and chat with anyone he met on his walks. Dad was truly an amazing man; he was always our number one fan. We were so blessed to have him and will cherish him forever. He truly lived “A Life Fulfilled” just as his memoir was titled. Dad was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Tyler, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Cora; children, Anne Jackson (Bill), Wendell (Janet), Lloyd (Wanda), Karen Hemsing (David), and Brian (Radka); 6 grandchildren, Jason (Maria), Krista (Kevin), Amber (Steve), Adam (Adrienne), Andrea (Reece), and Laura (Aaron); 14 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Gerard (Riet) in Holland, sisters-in-law Margaret, Nettie, and Wilma, brother-in-law, Tony, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is forever grateful to Dr. Folton, Dr. Thomson, Norlinda Delgado and the Home Care Team for their excellent care. A Family Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Marino Infante Celebrant. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
